La Grange is an enchanting stone farmhouse dating from the 18th century, with metre thick walls of honey coloured stone and massive ceiling timbers. It is set in 2 acres of its own grounds with outbuildings and a secluded pool.
Close to the amenities of the village of Payrac, it is situated on a hill in the tiny hamlet of Serres, with beautiful views of rolling countryside, meadows and woodland with a nearby stream.
The house was totally restored in 2004. The large kitchen on the ground floor was once home to cattle. The bedroom area was a barn and hayloft. The attic above the living room was used for drying tobacco.
Many of the old character features are retained while providing all the modern comforts.
The traditional French atmosphere of exposed stone walls and massive ceiling timbers is coupled with polished chestnut floors, oriental rugs and fine furnishing, to create a comfortable home with full character and charm.
The large kitchen is equipped with all modern amenities including a large L shaped working area over oak units, double sink, cooker, dish washer, microwave, fridge and coffee maker.
Two large kitchen tables provide flexibility for indoor dining. An adjacent utility room is equipped with washing machine and double sink, and, beyond, is a washroom.
The kitchen door leads out onto a terrace with table and chairs for 10 under a large sun umbrella for alfresco dining.
The huge living room provides space to sit, read, watch television or DVDs, and chill out. Stone steps lead down to the terrace and garden, while a beautiful archway and a stone staircase lead off to the bedrooms.
There are five large guest bedrooms.
On the first floor, two doubles with en-suites, and one twin with en-suite, surround a large landing. A rugged oak staircase leads up to the spacious second floor, landing with one twin and one single room and a large, shared bath/shower room.
A cot is also available.
The house is set in more than 2 acres of its own grounds with a pool surrounded by lavender and hypericum, and shaded by ancient walnut trees. After a refreshing swim, lounge on the poolside terrace, read and look over the lawns to the hills beyond.
While we welcome children of all ages, there are dwarf walls around the house and steep roman steps into the pool, so there must be responsible adult supervision at all times.
